Millions of innocent Sudanese have been displaced and are starving because of the lack of aid entering Sudan. There are only a handful of functioning hospitals in all of Sudan. All that would take to get the war between the RSF and the SAF to end would be to sanction and embargo both parties and the countries/individuals who are supplying arms to the warring parties. The current sanctions are not enough and many organizations have asked for expanding the sanctions and creating an arms embargo to cut off their weapons supply. But no world leaders are taking these steps nor are they allocating funding for aid groups that are running out of food and supplies due to dwindling funds. How can the world be so harsh as to not witness the suffering of Sudanese that are being attacked and starved by both sides and take action?
To best help Sudan, it is important to understand the current situation and share that information with others. Below are important headlines about the war in Sudan and the impact on the Sudanese.
Channel 4 News: Sudan: rare glimpse inside war-ravaged El Geneina
Everyone must watch this video about El Geneina. It’s incredibly powerful and does not hold back about the reality and the facts of the genocide that has occurred in El Geneina and the effects it has had on the people and the city. Please share this video so more can understand the despair and pain that the Sudanese are suffering and how no leaders are taking charge to end this genocide. The RSF trying to rebrand themselves as peaceful and not the killers and perpetrators of war crimes is not fooling anyone and it’s important that they covered this fact in the video so the world does not forget who began the war and has committed crimes against humanity.
Sudan Tribune: Mass exodus from El Fasher amidst intensifying conflict in North Darfur
Sudanese have nowhere safe to go and have had to continually seek safety but every corner of Sudan is plagued with violence and starvation. Large numbers of displaced Sudanese have fled El Fasher and have relocated to Tawila and other parts of Jebel Marra. They are hungry and have no basic necessities with them. The RSF is targeting El Fasher because this is the last major city that is controlled by the SAF. It’s horrifying to picture what Sudan would look like under complete RSF control as they have ethnically cleansed, raped, brutalized, and starved millions of Sudanese. This is why it is critical to demand sanctions and embargoes for all warring parties and their arms suppliers.
The New Arab: Will Russia’s support for Sudan’s army turn the tide in the war?
If Russia switches sides and drops the RSF for the SAF, this could very well be a turning point in the war. Russia wants the use of ports in Sudan and the SAF has put that on the table now, which is the reason why this change of heart has occurred. No doubt that the weapons that Russia has transferred to the RSF has been a contributing factor for their ability to gain control of almost all the major cities in Sudan, along with the UAE of course because the UAE is the major arms supplier for the RSF. Members of the RSF and Russia have worked together for years in the illegal gold trade so that Russia could make up for the sanctions that have been placed on them. Some think that this will not be a turning point because this is Russia playing both sides and the RSF has lots of financial backing. However, SAF officials have stated that there will be weapons transfers.
The Washington Post: Opinion: Preventing gencodie in Darfur requires an immediate peacekeeping force
“The RSF has calculated — up to this point, accurately — that it can afford to wait because the global response has been negligible. This in itself is a tragedy.” It is a tragedy. A tragedy that could end and must end to save millions of innocent lives. The RSF has been allowed to continue their genocide across Sudan because they know that world leaders have never taken action for wars and atrocities taking place in Africa. Elected officials around the world have used Africa for hundreds of years, and they have not changed their policies regarding the continent as a whole yet. If they did, they would send funding and create opportunities for diplomacy and for Sudanese aid groups and Sudanese right’s groups to set the course for peace and the future of Sudan. I fully agree with the first option presented in this article of a ceasefire so that aid could be distributed and a pathway for peace could be designed. Since neither party is opting for a ceasefire, the next suggestion is a UN peacekeeping mission. Is it right to add more violence on top of violence? Sending UN troops is decision that should be left up to the Sudanese.
