Some refrain from discussing Sudan or raising awareness about the genocide and starvation occurring in Sudan because they label the war between the SAF and the RSF as a civil war. It’s not. Even if it were a civil war, the human rights of the Sudanese people who were living peacefully should be more than enough reason to speak out against the atrocities that the Sudanese try to exist in on a daily basis.
The truth is that the war in Sudan has been brought on through foreign involvement by both the UAE and also Russia. Russia and the UAE seem like unlikely allies, but Russia has been supporting the UAE and their claims over the Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa islands. What is surprising is that Russia is turning their back on their longtime ally, Iran, and throwing their support behind the UAE. Iran has summoned Russian diplomats to discuss Russia’s digression, but Russia still backs the UAE’s control over these islands. This is all leads up to Sudan, though.
Russia has been active in Sudan for years now. They negotiated with al-Bashir, when he was in power, for a contracts of gold mines. Now they are siding with the RSF and arming them so they can maintain their flow of gold, just like the UAE is doing with the RSF. These gold mines fund the Russian Wagner force and also offset the sanctions that have been imposed on Russia over their war on Ukraine.
There have been reports that Iran has attempted to negotiate a port on Sudan’s coast but Sudanese officials have called those reports false and stated that the military official used in the story was not even a real person. What those articles did not include was the fact that Russia has been trying to secure a port in Sudan for four years. This is another reason why they would be siding with the RSF. It’s incomplete reporting to not provide the full context and truth of who and why certain foreign nations are trying to establish naval bases in Sudan. Iran and Sudan have firmly stated there have never been discussions, but Russia and previous Sudanese officials have discussed a Russian naval base in Sudan which was walked back at the urging of the US.
How does the US back the UAE who is working with Russia in Sudan?
Apparently, Russia and the UAE have been normalizing relations. Last year the business between these two countries was booming. Russians are moving to the Emirates and bringing along with them their businesses. Oil is being traded between the two at large amounts as well.
Videos of both Wagner forces and Ukrainian forces in Sudan have surfaced. Ukraine is attempting to cut off Russia’s access to the gold that is funding Russia’s war on Ukraine. Some people are shocked to see Ukrainians fighting in Sudan, but they are trying attack Russia’s gold flow out of Sudan which helps fund the war on Ukraine.
These bad actors (Russia and the UAE) are creating the destabilization within Sudan, and then funding and arming a terror group. The result is that the Sudanese are killed, raped, enslaved, starved, and displaced because countries are trying to access their resources to fund their war crimes at home and abroad.
over 13,000 innocent Sudanese have been killed
9 out of 10 Sudanese are at emergency levels of hunger
18 million Sudanese are acutely food insecure
8 million Sudanese have been displaced
25 million Sudanese desperately need humanitarian aid
This is not a civil war in Sudan. These are the results of nations funding a terror group, the RSF, in order to gain control and access to the resources in Sudan. No world leaders are holding any of these countries accountable for their role in the genocide of innocent Sudanese. This war would end abruptly if arms shipments were banned and sanctions placed on those contributing to arms transfers to the RSF, but not one country is placing embargoes or sanctions on the UAE or Russia for their role in the war in Sudan.
