Reuters: Blinken sees extraordinary opportunity for Israel to normalise ties with neighbors
Al Jazeera: US to send weapons to Israel amid invasion threat in Gaza’s Rafah: Report
CNN: US threatens to veto new Gaza ceasefire resolution at UN Security Council
Middle East Monitor: Israel grants license for gas exploration within Palestine’s maritime boundary
All of these articles are interconnected. The US might say they want a ceasefire, but are actively preventing a permanent ceasefire. The US delegate to the UN has warned the Security Council that they will veto any ceasefire resolution using an illogical argument that the ceasefire will jeopardize a hostage exchange. Instead of instantly refuting the resolution, the US could simply ask for the hostage exchange to be included and the resolution amended, but they do not because they want the Israeli genocide to continue.
Russia and other countries have tried several times to pass UNSC resolutions for a ceasefire and exchange of hostages, but the US has either killed the resolutions or vetoed them when it came time for voting. This has been the preferred stance of the US- don’t stand in the way of the Israeli genocide.
The reality is that the US is sending more ammunition and arms to Israel so they can perpetrate their war crimes and atrocities on Palestinians unimpeded as they are now. The ICJ could have taken a stronger approach to Israel’s attacks on Rafah but did not because the US is ultimately pulling the strings of many global institutions.
For months now the Israeli government has been moving ahead with the annexation of the Palestinian gas field off the coast of Gaza, just like they have done with Lebanon for decades. With the war distracting from this usurpation, there are no calls from leaders for Israel to cease these gas projects in Palestinian waters. Lebanon has had to fight with Israel over their gas fields being exploited by Israel without Israel ever being held accountable for their actions. With the war on Gaza at hand, and war crimes worsening, Israel is attempting to hide behind their war to begin their long-sought projects on Palestinian land (and sea). Israel has also begun plans for housing projects on Palestinians land, yet no world leaders are taking steps to stop these projects. The US is often involved in these construction projects but they are not withholding funding or arms for Israel as a result of Israel’s brazen annexation already in progress.
Which brings us to Blinken’s push for Israel to buddy up with their neighbors. If Israel sells the gas from the Palestinian fields cheap to their neighbors, then it’s an amoral win-win for Israel and the Middle Eastern countries that would rather purchase gas at a cheaper rate from a neighbor who stole that land and massacred innocent people for it. This is the sad truth that is playing out though. All of Palestine’s are not doing anything to support Palestine or taking action to ensure a ceasefire. They are choosing instead to profit from the bases, arms deals, and lucrative business opportunities the US is bribing them with, and it is working because none of these countries have sanctioned or embargoed Israel.
The US knows these countries will be lured by profit and they are. The other countries that do dissent are facing ongoing bombardment. Yemen has been hit multiple times in the last 24 hours. If a country does not take the money, then they have the US military to contend with. These bullying strategies are working, which is why the war on Gaza has gone on for 135 days.
Despite what the US says, they are pushing for whatever Israel wants, and Israel wants to annex Gaza and eliminate innocent Palestinians in order to do so. When a government sends more bombs and ammunition and blocks all attempts for a permanent ceasefire and humanitarian aid, they are not seeking peace but war.
From the river to the sea, may Palestine be free. May the whole world be free.
