The war in Sudan has been raging for almost a year, though Sudan has been embroiled in wars and faced with atrocities for decades. Sudan sees no peace or reprieve from violence. Why is there not more support for the innocent Sudanese who are victims of slavery, sexual assault, starvation, bombardments, and have no place for safety? Many of the Sudanese that have escaped to Egypt and Chad do not find any humanitarian assistance or reassurance in these countries, and now some Sudanese are returning to Sudan because prospects in Chad and Egypt are no better. 25 million Sudanese are relying on humanitarian aid but little is entering or reaching those who need it most.
How is the world silent still on the largest displacement of innocent civilians in the world right now? Over 9 million innocent Sudanese have had to flee for their survival. Where are world leaders and attempts at diplomacy and negotiations? Where are the sanctions and embargoes to hold the aggressors accountable?
Again, it is the inaction of world leaders and also global institutions that choose inaction over taking steps to help end the war between the RSF and the SAF. The violence would stop if the RSF was cut off from their arms and funding from the UAE, but leaders who could effectively end the war are choosing silence and noncommittal condemnations which do nothing to end the war.
Sudanese refugees are cramped into makeshift camps that lack food, water, and medicine. People are getting sick and outbreaks of disease are rising due to the lack of all three necessities. This compounds the suffering of innocent Sudanese civilians caught in the middle and trying to live peaceful lives. It is impossible for humanitarian aid to enter many of the refugee camps because of the fighting between the SAF and RSF. There are over 6,600 camps that are scattered across Sudan where civilians have sought safety.
3.5 million Sudanese children are malnourished.
700,000 Sudanese children suffer from acute malnourishment.
1.2 million cases of malaria in Sudan.
10,000 cases of cholera in Sudan.
8,000 cases of dengue fever in Sudan.
5,000 cases of measles in Sudan.
Where are the aid drops? Why can’t aid be flown to the areas that are hard to reach? There seems to be a disparity in the effort made for other countries that are also at war and the aid that is sent to them, or even the effort put into getting aid to them. Beyond the lack of energy put into getting aid into Sudan, there is a tremendous lack of money being sent to humanitarian aid groups. Is it because world leaders who would normally be assisting Sudan are currently sending military aid to Israel?
Women’s rights groups in Sudan are being attacked and driven from their locations of operation. Both the SAF and RSF have targeted humanitarian workers and human rights advocates. Sanctions would be one step to hold both to account, but nothing is done or even reported on these attacks on those trying to offer assistance to the Sudanese people.
Where is the media providing coverage of the atrocities taking place in Sudan? Why are they not covering the war? Whose directive and push is it to silence the media on the war in Sudan? Where are the influencers and celebrities who once took a stand for human rights? Why are they also silent? Where is the outrage over the horrors that innocent Sudanese are forced to live through?
We have to do what we can to fund humanitarian organizations in Sudan. It is up to us to fill in the void that world leaders are so inhumanely leaving empty. Please urge your friends and family to donate to Sudanese humanitarian organizations today.
We also must demand that our leaders assist in providing funding for Sudan. We must demand that they sanction and embargo the RSF and the UAE that provides arms and military funding to the RSF. This is tied to the war on Gaza. The US does not want to upset the support the UAE has provided for Israel’s genocide and if the US and other western powers attempt to add further sanctions on the RSF or the UAE, it will jeopardize the US’ military goals in the Middle East. The result is that millions of innocent Sudanese will suffer further and die.
It’s unconscionable that leaders with the power to end the war in Sudan do nothing to end it, and nothing for humanitarian assistance either.
Please donate today.
May the whole world be free.
