There are satellite images of the Egyptian border with Gaza of new walls being erected, creating an open-air detention camp that runs the length of the border and has a width of two miles. They are also leveling the land, which would be needed if Egypt intends to use this an open-air detention camp. Egypt has informed Israel that their attack on Rafah must stop and warned Israel that their peace treaty is in jeopardy if they do.
Everyone has been worried what will happen when Israel begins their ground assault on Rafah like Netanyahu has firmly repeated his determination to lay siege on Rafah, the last “safe zone.” Where will the Palestinians be forcibly pushed to now?
Egypt is deducing, like the majority of the world, that Israel will push Palestinians in Rafah into Egypt. It seems as if Egypt is hedging that bet and preparing for the Palestinians to be forced into Egypt.
Netanyahu has been vocal of his goal to control Gaza and annex it. For Israel to annex Gaza, they are using self-defense as their legitimacy to kill as many Palestinians so they can take over the Gaza Strip. Israel has eluded to this stage as being the most important to their military and it is because this is a major step in attaining control of Gaza, to displace as many Palestinians as possible out of Gaza.
Israel has purposely decimated as much of Gaza as possible to make it unlivable. They have moved as much of the Palestinians to the south as possible so they can begin this attack and finally push them into Egypt. When the IDF begins their attack on Rafah, they will make it as horrible as possible so that Palestinians will want to leave for Egypt. It will be like nothing we have seen yet, and the horrors that Israel has committed in their war on Gaza are as numerous as they are atrocious. This might be why several of western leaders have finally told Israel to stop their attack on Rafah, but a sternly worded letter has no effect on Israel while these countries still fund and arm the genocidal country.
No country has held Israel accountable except for Malaysia. Spain had an arms embargo and then turned around and sold arms to Israel, so it was just for show, not for humanitarian allegiance with Palestinians.
Israel knows no country will stand up to their actions and take the step to sanction or embargo them because the US will penalize any country that will try. The US acting as Israel’s protector was on full display in the UN. The US has not been shy with their blind support for Israel and leaders understand the threat that lies behind confronting Israel in any meaningful way like sanctions or embargoes.
That should not matter. Look at Malaysia, standing alone with refusing to allow Israeli shipments in their ports and supporting the boycotts of companies that do support Israel. For all the fiery speeches leaders have given over their disgust of Israel’s war crimes and atrocities, these leaders do nothing to take action for Palestinians.
If more countries take the step to sanction and embargo Israel, it will have an impact and it will affect Israel’s plans to take over Gaza. Not even the ICJ is doing anything to stop the Palestinians imminent displacements from Rafah. The power lays in the hands of leaders who choose to remain inactive.
Palestinians do not want to enter Egypt. If they leave Gaza, Israel will never allow them to return. They have been through this in the 1948 Nakba. This is the goal of Israel to expel as many Palestinians from Gaza and then annex all the land.
Will any leader actually do anything to hold Israel accountable?
This is why Egypt has built their detention center at the border, because they know that no one will step in and confront Israel. If they haven’t now, will leaders take action when Palestinians are massacred at the border?
How is it acceptable at all for our leaders to support Israel or remain inactive? What should our response be to these elected officials?
