AZ, another state where voters have to take matters into their own hands and enshrine abortion rights

What is going on in Arizona? It is outright mayhem in the state legislature and their Supreme Court which upheld a complete ban on abortion citing a law from 1864. Here is where things get chaotic. Several republican congresspeople were upset over the complete abortion ban. Donald Trump said that this complete ban needed to be changed. So when there was a vote in the House to repeal the law, the GOP legislators ended the session in order to avoid a vote. What happened to those same Republican congresspeople that said this complete abortion ban went too far? This state is in need of a complete house clearing. There is no sense of direction.

This is all up to voters now. Unless their Congress can repeal the law, the ballot initiative to protect abortion access is the only way for women and pregnant people to be protected and seek necessary healthcare.

Ohio voters protected women and pregnant people’s access to abortion. This seems to be the only way to protect our rights.

Our elected officials are failing us. This is yet another reason why voters should have the power and not elected officials. State and federal legislators accomplish so little especially in protecting our rights. Instead congress seeks to restrict our rights and use taxpayer money to accomplish it.

If we want change and to protect our rights, it will only come from the people and not those in elected offices.

As of now, abortion providers in Arizona are open and might have a few more months to perform abortion care. If the 1864 law cannot be repealed, then all clinics will close and doctors will not be able to offer abortions unless a woman or pregnant person is dying. That means for several months, Arizona will have a complete abortion ban and that pregnant people will have to travel out of state for healthcare. What many pro-choice groups fear is that once these clinics are closed, it will be difficult to reopen.

Women and pregnant people need to make their own choices regarding pregnancy with their healthcare provider. Lives are on the line here. These abortion bans are deadly for women and pregnant people.

Unless a person is dying, they cannot have an abortion? These laws are meant to kill women and pregnant people. These laws are meant to fully oppress women and pregnant people. These are laws are not meant to protect, but to control with death and jail as the penalties.

Arizona voters have such an important job. Please vote to protect women and pregnant people’s access to abortion. Please vote to protect women’s bodily autonomy and choice. Please vote to protect women.
