A case has been filed with the World Court against Israel over their genocide of innocent Palestinians by the brave nation of South Africa. There have been pleas from people across the world for a country to take this courageous step and file the case against Israel, and South Africa has began the process for an investigation and hearing into the genocide of Palestinians at the hands of Israel.
In the filing, South Africa states that Israel is breaking the Genocide Convention. Most importantly, it included an urgent request that the International Court of Justice, which is the highest court within the United Nations, demand Israel cease their siege on Gaza immediately. There is no hearing date set, so the public needs to take action and put pressure on the ICJ to begin the process and hear South Africa’s case. The ICJ will then have to send a statement to Israel regarding South Africa’s request for a ceasefire.
One problem with cases in the ICJ is that many countries do not respect the rulings from the ICJ (or the ICC, or the UN). Israel is already attacking the case and claiming they do their best to protect civilian lives. They further go on to discredit the case calling it “blood libel”, and are asking for the ICJ to throw it out. The latest UNSC Resolution that was passed requiring more aid into Gaza is not being upheld on Israel’s side, per the statement of UN Under-Secretary-General, Martin Griffiths.
Will Israel respect any form of international accountability? Just from their past history, it is unlikely.
THIS is why it is imperative that countries enact an embargo against Israel. Malaysia has been the lone country to take the valiant move to forego trade with Israel.
Yemen is doing its part as well through the blockade the Houthi fighters have created in the Red Sea which has completely disrupted shipping for Israel.
Palestine needs more countries like Malaysia and Yemen to cut off trade and disrupt trade with Israel. For this genocide of innocent Palestinians to end, more countries must embargo Israel. To really make a strong statement to the world, countries should also include the United States in an embargo.
South Africa is holding Israel accountable through international law, as all countries should do when international law is broken. This is the first means of recourse all countries should seek when an injustice of this level is committed. What must change is that the countries that are convicted of international crimes against humanity must be held to that charge through the international community.
How? Please don’t get mad at me for repeating it a thousand times, but it’s an embargo. That is how countries hold one another accountable. Sanctions or embargoes are the means for accountability when one country breaks international law and other countries want to address those actions or deter them.
Now that there is a case filed calling for a genocide convention, it is incumbent on world leaders to embargo Israel for their continued genocide against the Palestinian people. Make an even bolder move and hold the US accountable as well.
Contact your elected official and demand an embargo for Israel and the US.
Thank you, South Africa. Thank you for supporting international laws and upholding human rights of millions of innocent Palestinians. South Africa is setting an example for the world and saying that human rights and International law matter. Even if Israel does not respect the outcome of the case, this is a step to take to protect humanity and justice.
This world needs peace. This world needs justice. This world needs the actions of the brave to uphold both. EMBARGO ISRAEL. EMBARGO THE US.
From the river to the sea, may Palestine be free. May the whole world be free.
Protest. Boycott. Contact your elected officials and demand an embargo. Volunteer. Organize. BE UNGOVERNABLE. Share the stories from Gaza. Share the news from Gaza. Share the history of Gaza. Please extend the same energy for other people and countries facing genocide and atrocities- Sudan, Congo, the Rohingyas, West Papua, Armenians, and the Uyghurs.
