There are so many ways we can all help limit our contributions to climate change. We all have sacrifices that we must make in order to save this amazing world we are lucky enough to exist on. The research and science has warned us for decades that humans have polluted and destroyed nature, and there would be consequences. The consequences are just beginning. We can help protect the environment if we each take steps and are conscious about our impacts on nature.
The entire planet is facing devastating changes that are drastically altering temperatures and access to water. It does not matter what corner of the world one resides, no one can escape climate change. Much of Europe is currently under an extreme heatwave. Countries like Serbia are drying up and burning. What we all must understand is that these occurrences will become more and more common. How will nature withstand such heat? Using electricity and fossil fuels to cool ourselves only adds to climate change. This is a brutal cycle that must be addressed.

It’s not just Europe under extreme heat, the US is also sweltering this summer. Everywhere across the globe, temperature records are being broken. How many animals, plants, and humans die as a result to the heat stress? Is there any concrete studies or research that are documenting the rates of death as a result of the heat? Why aren’t elected officials in the US and in other governments listening to environmental groups and scientists to reduce our carbon outputs, chemical usage, and energy consumption?

As climate change worsens, all of our resources will become scarcer and more expensive. Those without the means to afford these necessities to survive in severe weather will suffer and die. It is already occurring in the US. Vulnerable communities are going to have no where to cool down in the heatwaves, or warm up in extreme cold fronts. It’s not just energy but food and water that are causing battles between oppressors looking to profit and those who desperately need basic necessities.

While the world is heating up, the critical glaciers throughout the earth are vanishing rapidly. The repercussions of losing the glaciers is truly devastating to nature in many ways. The rising ocean is destroying coastal ecosystems and actually disrupting the core of the planet. Our days are going to become longer and our currents are slowing down.

We can all make a difference. Every little bit helps tremendously. Do not assume that your own contribution or actions matter, because they do.
What can you do?
Never use herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, or rodenticides.
Don’t fly unless necessary.
Don’t go on cruises.
Use public transportation, bike, drive an EV, or reduce your amount of driving.
Don’t purchase single use plastics.
Eat organic.
Go vegan or vegetarian.
Reduce your chemical usage.
Plant native plants and eliminate the lawn or plastic turf.
Try not to use your AC. Use fans and keep it set at 78 degrees.
Look into whole house fans or heat pumps to cool your house.
Look into better insulation and windows to retain cool temperatures.
Keep your purchases down to what is necessary and not frivolous. It is putting a strain on our planet.
May the whole world be free.
