For months the UN, international humanitarian groups, and world leaders have tiptoed around outright calling Israel’s massacre of innocent Palestinians in Gaza as a genocide and war crimes. The news outlets follow suit and also refrain from categorizing Israel’s incessant and inhumane violence toward Palestinian civilians as war crimes, carefully evading the condemnation of Israel.
This is a huge part of the problem. The UN must call out Israel for the annihilation of Gaza and the deaths of over 32,000 Palestinians as definitive war crimes and genocide. The UN has said that both sides have committed war crimes, but the UN needs to go further and hold Israel accountable for those war crimes. World leaders must call out Israel and condemn their war crimes and genocide. Humanitarian groups must call out Israel and condemn their war crimes and genocide.
Because so few have made these necessary denunciations, Israel continues unabated. There is a binding ceasefire that Israel is completely disregarding. There are no calls from world leaders to hold Israel accountable for refusing to upholding a binding ceasefire. No one is sanctioning or embargoing Israel as a result of their refusal to be held accountable and respect international law, while other countries are held to the standard of international law.
Until world leaders state that Israel is committing war crimes and genocide, Israel will go on with their war on Gaza.
Until world leaders sanction and embargo Israel for committing war crimes and genocide, Israel will go on with their war on Gaza.
Aid is not making its way into Gaza and Palestinians are dying of starvation. People are drowning while trying to reach aid that has been parachuted into the sea. Israel has the power to open up the borders to allow aid into the strip but they are not and Palestinians are dying. It is forced starvation. Yet world leaders still have not sanctioned or embargoed Israel for imposing a forced famine on Gaza through Israel’s hyper-restrictive aid requirements on what is permitted to enter the strip.
Canada and Spain have attempted their own forms of “arms embargoes” on Israel, but Spain has already broken that embargo and shipped arms to Israel while Canada’s “arms embargo” has a loophole that allows Canada to still sell some arms to Israel.
An arms embargo should not be complicated or have any loop holes. There should be no sale of any arms, munitions, or military equipment to Israel. That is a complete arms embargo.
No country has sanctioned Israel or its leaders. Some countries are sanctioning settlers, but that has not affected the increasing violence of settlers against innocent Palestinians. These sanctions are meaningless and useless.
After the ceasefire resolution passed, Israel increased attacks on Gaza. No one is holding Israel accountable for breaking a binding resolution and intensifying air assaults on civilians as their deadly response for peace.
World leaders are going to have to call out Israel and sanction and embargo Israel over their war crimes and genocide in Gaza.
Stop avoiding the truth and state the facts because it makes the UN, world leaders, humanitarian organizations, and news outlets appear as if they are scared to state the truth to the world. They are scared that the US will retaliate. If everyone does present the facts that Israel is breaking international laws and should be held accountable for war crimes and genocide, there is no way that the US could retaliate on that magnitude.
From the river to the sea, may Palestine be free. May the whole world be free.
