The genocide is still ongoing. Innocent Palestinians are facing starvation with very little aid entering Gaza due to the restrictions of Israel and also a group of Zionist supporters that are blocking the aid trucks. Israel has even bombed shipments in Gaza. On top of the little aid that does cross into Gaza, the US and other major donors to UNRWA have defunded this critical humanitarian organization that is a branch of the UN, and the Palestinians are dealing with the brunt of these losses.
The death toll is at 27,500 innocent Palestinians.
Over 66,000 Palestinians have been wounded.
2.3 million Palestinians are facing acute food insecurity.
Northern Gaza has no functioning hospitals.
Yet there is a glimmer of hope. Hamas has had a positive response for the newly proposed hostage deal that would ensure six weeks of a truce between Hamas and Israel. Hamas will have to give up all of their hostages in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinians prisoners. While this is major progress, a complete ceasefire should be part of this deal. Israel would not agree to a complete ceasefire though. Israel has clear goals of completely decimating Gaza, completing their genocide of innocent Palestinians, and annexing the land. If this truce is agreed upon, it will be very difficult to justify the return to slaughtering innocent Palestinians after six weeks of peace, and it would be another demonstration of the penchant Israel has for wiping out Gaza completely while peace is at hand and an option.
Will Israel agree to this truce? To some of these conditions they have agreed to the broader plan, but a lot must be negotiated between Israel and Hamas. Israel has announced earlier the alleged number of dead hostages being held by Hamas, which is not a promising statement to make but more of a precursor to justify their continued war. The pressure is on Israel to end their war because the entire Middle East is becoming entwined in their violence. Violence spreads when violence is rewarded. Israel has been clear that they will not stop until they wipe out Hamas, and these words will forever haunt Israeli officials that hold themselves to this humanity-devoid level of reasoning. Even if Israel does agree to a six-week truce, what will stop them from resuming their war after the six weeks like they previously have done after the last truce?
Continue fighting for Palestine. Don’t let that fight be diminished over time or weary. The days that you lose hope, find that hope in another and resuscitate that fight within. We don’t stop fighting for a free Palestine until there is a free Palestine.
May God bless everyone in Palestine. May all Palestinians find justice. May all of Palestine heal.
From the river to the sea, may Palestine be free.
