Hi.

How Can we be Thankful for Thanksgiving?

This is not a hit piece against gratitude. This is addressed to a holiday that was a celebration between the indigenous people and the settlers who then slaughtered them after and for generations to come.

Thanksgiving is a day we spend with family and that is the only positive aspect of this day. I would rather call today a family feast and not dishonor the memory of the indigenous people who inhabited America.

Americans need to acknowledge the role of the settlers and the disgusting and inhumane treatment the indigenous communities have received for hundreds of years at the hands of settlers and the US government. Even up to this day Native American tribes are fighting the US government for input and for their land to be respected. The US government is still taking their land and disrespecting their land. The border wall crosses native land and does not respect the treaties signed and ratified or the environmental concerns the tribes have voiced. There are also several tribes fighting to not have their land sourced for mining or pipelines.

IT IS THEIR LAND. How many ways can the US government disrespect indigenous communities?

Native Americans deserve their sovereignty and their human rights to be respected.

I am deeply sorry.

It is extremely difficult to celebrate a day that was truly a beautiful moment between two communities that was then destroyed because the goals were always control and greed.

Was it in earnest? It was at least on one side, and then they were killed despite their generosity.

It hurts to think of how trusting the indigenous people were and how loving it was to teach the settlers to grow native plants. The indigenous people gave so much to settlers and it was destroyed and taken for granted.

I am deeply sorry.

This country could have been something amazing if the settlers had respected the native community, as they should have from the first day. So much was lost and destroyed through the greed of the US government and the racists that championed the oppression of the indegenous people.

The way the US has treated indigenous people in America and throughout the world with utter contempt and disregard. We see this same treatment continuing in Palestine which shows the institutionalized inhumanity and degradation of indigenous communities in order to oppress and gain land and resources.
