There are two options that leaders have to end the war on Gaza- war on Israel, or sanction and embargo Israel.
Lebanon brought up an important fact in the UN General Assembly the other week, on holding Israel accountable and stopping aggression, no one has at this point either through the UN resolutions or ICC investigations. Israel refutes the ICC and their decisions in the past and the US supported Israel in their response against the validity of the International Criminal Court. The US went so far as to sanction ICC prosecutors. Both Israel and the US have refused to join the ICC to avoid accountability. There have been investigations into Israeli war crimes recently but nothing has come from these investigations and that has been due to the bullying of Israel and the US (and several other nations as well).
Israel and the US are utilizing the avoidance tactic to evade accountability. It is odd that the US has such power in the UN but is not a member of the ICC. Each nation that is a member of the UN and has the ability to vote, should simultaneously be a member of the ICC and be held to the same international law.
While the ICC quickly investigated and held Russia accountable for war crimes, the same standard is not held to Israel that is actively committing the genocide of Palestinians. It is also a difference of action taken from world leaders who demanded investigations into Russia but these same nations are not calling for the war crimes Israel is committing to be investigated.
Only Belgium has placed sanctions against Israel. Every country that has voted for Palestinian protections, a ceasefire, or humanitarian aid to Palestine should immediately sanction and embargo Israel. A full embargo would be the most effective. A world power that embargoes Israel and the US would change the trajectory of the siege against Palestine. Other nations would follow suit and this would hurt the economies of both Israel and the US, motivating officials in those countries to enact a ceasefire. Money motivates the US government and a worldwide embargo on the US and Israel would not just end the war in Gaza, but it would change the power dynamic globally for the better. This is the best diplomatic option for world leaders. It demonstrates the power of unity. It sends a message across the world that the world will unite for humanity.
The other option is war. Iran is backing down from their more aggressive statements. The USS Eisenhower is off the coast of Iran. The USS Ford can also hit targets in Iran from where it is positioned. After the US governments pro-genocide and war crimes rally, and the calls for continued war, the US is eager to enter into greater conflict in the Middle East. So many countries are being threatened into silence. The US wants to expand their influence in the Middle East and gain its resources, there are many reasons the US would want to enter war with a nation from the region and increase their control in the area.
Not one power has questioned the US as to why they are positioning so many naval assets in the Middle East and to what ends. Why does the US have bases in Syria? How many bases does the US have in Israel? Why are these leaders not demanding answers from the US or Israel?
They are all terrified of the US.
They are terrified that the US will do what it did in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
The US would invade and destroy any country that defies them, and US officials will swear that they have the moral authority to do so, just as Israel is stating. It is disgusting how much of a threat the US is and how the world never united to challenge the US when it should have. No country has been courageous to make the charge that America is morally fallible and should be held to account for the crimes against humanity that the government has committed.
If leaders do not embargo Israel, then Israel will continue the genocide of innocent Palestinians. What leaders must realize is that the voters, the citizens of countries across the world are not going to stand for these war crimes and genocide. People are realizing that their leaders are ineffective, amoral, and a threat to have in power if they do not act against ethnic cleansing and the atrocities Israel is perpetrating. These leaders have to listen to their voters and hear their voices, be the representative of the people, or then lose the respect and trust of your voters, and then power.
They are too scared, though, and have proven that they are too scared.
What will end the torture and massacre of Palestinians?
Is it all up to the people at this point? It appears so. With ineffective leaders, the people must take action where they will not.
With ineffective leaders, with an ineffective democracy, the power must go to the people. We must do everything we can to remove these leaders from power and ensure and protect the rights of all.
We have to do everything in our power for Palestine and all who are oppressed. It is up to us now.
BE UNGOVERNABLE.
UPDATE
The Security Council passed a resolution yesterday that requires extended humanitarian pauses in Gaza. This is a major step to finally have a binding resolution passed. HOWEVER, Israel has had binding resolutions passed and never held to them. Russia and China are concerned that this resolution is inadequate unless there are actions taken to hold Israel to the ceasefire and for multiple independent organizations to oversee the peace. The Deputy Ambassador of Mozambique brought up the most important point, that “this resolution does not address the fundamentals of the humanitarian crisis.” Russia then stated that the US “hollowed out” the effectiveness of the resolution. This was a major step toward protecting Palestinians, but what will come from this remains to be seen. Israel was to respect a four hour ceasefire and they refuse despite the attempts from Hamas to negotiate the hostages that Hamas is holding.
Qatar is currently working out an agreement between Hamas and Israel to release Israeli hostages from Hamas for a three day ceasefire. This would be the greatest shift in the war on Gaza if all parties agree and respect this agreement.
My question to world power is- what are you going to do to ensure that Palestinians are not further punished for the actions of Hamas when Hamas releases all of the hostages? Israel has laid the groundwork that all Palestinians are terrorists. Palestinians are not terrorists, and they need ensured protections from world powers and nations across the world from the genocidal actions of Israel.
The power is in the hands of the people to make sure Palestinians are protected. Leaders will avoid holding Israel accountable so it is in our hands to do so.
From the river to the sea, may Palestine and all be free.
