A lot of media are missing the important context regarding the airstrike that killed 3 US soldiers in Jordan. Jordan has been bombing Syria recently without provocation from Syria to warrant these attacks. It seems that Jordan was emboldened to begin these airstrikes against Syria that killed civilians, alleging that they were drug smugglers. Leaders of these towns that were targeted had asked for Jordanian military to confirm with leaders on the location of actual drug traffickers and not to target innocent Syrian families.
A local militia group in Syria retaliated for these attacks on the US base in Jordan, and as a result, 3 US soldiers were killed.
The media is not doing its due diligence in providing the background for the escalation here and that is unfair to those who were killed in Syria. Could they be drug traffickers? Possibly, but many Syrians are stating that these were families killed. If someone bombed and murdered women and children, do they not have justification to respond? The west says that Israel has just that claim of self-defense but militia groups in Syria do not have that same claim? Why? Because they are Syrian?
A much more important question is, why is there such rampant drug trafficking in Syria if there is a US base already located in Syria? Would not that base and the base in Jordan provide enough protection to prevent such large-scale drug trafficking operations? What is the point of having a base in Syria and Jordan if they are clearly this ineffective? The point of these US bases in the region are to supposedly assist the regional governments in their protection but they have not made a dent if that is the case.
Another question is, why now with the drug trafficking attacks? Why is Jordan bombing Syria regularly over the last two months claiming drug trafficking when they are saying this is a recurring issue? Why was Jordan not bombing in September or August? It would be one thing if there were proof of these claims, but out of thin air to begin bombing seems like Jordan had another agenda at hand.
What agenda? To further push the region into war. Everyone is trying to draw Iran into war. As much as the US and other Middle Eastern leaders refute their rush to war, they are certainly proving the opposite with continued bombings of impoverished areas to prove otherwise. These are bully tactics of unceasingly provoking until someone actually responds in kind to that provocation, which is exactly what the US wants. Then they can lament that they are forced into war and bemoan the violence, but it is violence that they instigated.
Leaders in Syria do not want more innocent civilians killed and have stated they would help Jordan in capturing the drug smugglers. Why continue air assaults if the local people will help? Is it because it was never about the drug smugglers to begin with?
Will the US now launch a full attack on Syria? They have a base there so one would think they’d have the situation a bit better managed than a need to launch a war. They have local Syrian support to help locate the drug smugglers so there is not a need to bomb local towns in retaliation. It’s unclear if they will opt for increased airstrikes against Syrians, but it seems like Iran is not responding the way the US is hoping. The US wants to enrage Iran into war and Iran isn’t playing. It is much more likely the US will heavily bomb Syria to provoke a response from Iran. The US is already engaged in their continued bombardments of Yemen and Iran has not responded to that either.
The lives of innocent Syrians are at stake here, but no one seems to care for their lives and their human rights.
